One By One Summary/Plot
Co-workers of a company go on a trip to a beautiful snow mountain chalet to promote mindfulness and collaboration. Things start to go down when an avalanche hits.
They are left to their own devices with no connection to call for help. With no electricity, no WiFi. And one by one someone starts to kill them.
Anyone can be the killer. With the company of eight co-workers, they still can’t trust each other as the killer is among them.
One By One Book Review
This is a locked room and remote setting thriller with suspense. It’s definitely an engaging read.
The book has a dual POV. One is of Erin, the Chalet employee and the other is of Liz, an ex-Snoop employee who is also a minor shareholder in the company.
The company has a music social media app called Snoop. It allows you to anonymously listen to real-time music that others are listening to. It can be your friends, family, or your favorite celebrity. Others can also listen to what you’re listening to in real-time. The app is very interesting and also plays a major role in the story.
In the starting, you’ll be dumped with information about the employees. It’ll be hard to remember all of them like this. They are also introduced naturally in the story. So you don’t have to force yourself to remember all of them right from the beginning. But that thing did give me a bit of tension about how I’m gonna remember 8 people altogether but it turned out fine.
This is an “who done it” type of story. The locked room and remote setting in the story were best. They had no escape, no electricity, no WiFi, no connection to call out for help.
This was snowy and atmospheric and best to read during winter because of its setting. It can be predictable for some people, and for some, it might not. Still, it is enjoyable to read.
If you’re not able to guess the main culprit then you’ll find yourself doubting most of the characters. As the two co-founders and the other 2 major shareholders of the company have a disagreement going on related to the company.
The chalet has two employees at the moment Danny who is a chef and Erin is in charge of keeping everything clean. Having just two employees at the chalet seemed odd.I would definitely expect more staff at a place like that.
I did find it a bit boring at different points in the story. After the beginning, it quickly went down for me then again I was engaged in the story then again I found myself distracted.
After the culprit it revealed I liked it till a few chapters then I felt it was a bit stretched. Still, to some extent, I’m okay with that, as I loved the whole vibe of this book. But of course, I can’t ignore those things even though I was okay with them to some extent.
Even though I had my doubts and almost predicted the culprit still I wanted to know the end. If you didn’t predict it then you’ll be like what’s going to happen next or in the end?
If you want to read a “Who Done It” story that has an amazing snowy, atmospheric, and remote setting then you would definitely read this one.
