This is a review of “Pride And Prejudice” by Jane Austen without any spoilers.
This novel is so popular and hyped up that all the readers and even non-readers know about it. I finally read it and here’s what I think about this book without any spoilers.
Pride And Prejudice Summary/Plot
There are 5 Bennet sisters and their mother wants all 5 sisters to get married to wealthy men and live happily ever after.
Then Mr Bingley comes to the town with his friend Mr. Darcy. Everyone likes Mr. Bingley but they don’t feel the same for his friend Mr. Darcy.
We read the evolving relationship between Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet. One is pride and another is prejudice.
Pride And Prejudice Book Review
Pride and Prejudice is seen as a novel of manners. It has social classes and hierarchies that existed 200 years ago in England.
Before going further I would like to mention that I’m not going to judge the things in the book as it was written centuries ago.
When you read this book just keep in mind that it’s a 200 years old novel. So the language, behavior, cultural and social etiquette will be different compared to our current time.
It is hard to review a centuries-old book and make a strong opinion. That is something I won’t like to do but there are things I would like to say. Though most of it is because of the period it was written in.
Pride And Prejudice Story
It follows Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy. When they first meet, Elizabeth thinks of him as a rude man, who uses his title to gain respect.
One is Pride and another is Prejudice. As the story moves forward we see how they both come out of their pride and prejudice.
There aren’t that big twists in the story that can push you to read till the end. The thing that can make you read it till the end is if you genuinely enjoy reading books with historical vibes or simple yet a good romance story.
The story is mostly about people getting married and going to each other’s houses.
The mother wants all 5 daughters to get married to wealthy men and live happily. That’s all she wants and that’s what you’re going to read in this entire book with some interesting characters.
Pride And Prejudice Characters
The characters are interesting and also there are many characters that it’ll be hard to remember all of them.
The main characters are Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy. They are described very well. I like how Jane Austen has written the characters.
The character development of both the main characters was amazing. Characters are the best thing that I love in Jane Austen’s writing.
The story doesn’t only follow the two characters but shows the lives of other sisters too which I like about this book. I like Miss Bingley’s character. She is very interesting.
Writing And Language
The language is complex, it’s not an easy read. Overall the writing was great and unique.
I took the help of an audiobook to keep reading otherwise it would have taken me a month to read this book
Conclusion
I don’t like to rate classics but for my personal rating, I have rated this book 3 stars, because though I liked the story I didn’t particularly enjoy it.
I don’t understand the hype for this book because it wasn’t that interesting. The major thing I liked was the old vibes other than that I got bored and tired at many parts.
I would like to read other books by Jane Austen to see if I like her writings. As I didn’t actually enjoy reading this one.
Pride And Prejudice Movie
There’s also a movie made on this book and I saw that too after reading the book. It’s also good. There are just a few scenes that are not shown in a detailed manner, but I don’t think you will miss anything major. Watching the movie will save time for you to read other books.
