This is a review of “The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo” by Taylor Jenkins Reid without any spoilers.
About The Book
The book is based on the time period between the 1960s-70s and 2017.
It gives an old Hollywood vibe.
Evelyn Hugo is very ambitious and she will do anything to protect her loved ones, sometimes she ends up hurting them.
It shows different layers of her through her seven marriages or husbands. How she made things work for her to become successful. About her co-actors, friends, and family.
The story also has an LGBTQ angle in it. Which is very important in the story. So I’m not going to reveal that.
How do people in the entertainment industry do fake datings to make movies, and themselves popular.
There’s going to be a movie based on the book so I’m definitely gonna watch it when it releases.
Summary/Plot
A former Hollywood movie star Evelyn Hugo at the age of 79 wants to reveal her truth. She chooses an unknown reporter Monique Grant to write her biography.
Monique is surprised because she is not popular. So why her? Her husband has left her and her professional life is going nowhere. She wants to use this opportunity to jump-start her career.
Evelyn Hugo is going to reveal everything about her glamorous, scandalous life and career. How she escape from poverty to become a Movie star and also about her love life- her Seven Husbands along the way.
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo Book Review
Most of the time it was like I’m watching a drama.
This is very easy to read and imagine. You don’t have to put any kind of pressure on your head.
It shows how LGBTQ people feel. I don’t think I have read any book that has portrayed LGBTQ this much, So this was the first time I have read it and now I can understand what they feel in the past and even now.
I had mixed feelings about Evelyn Hugo, sometimes bad and sometimes good.
But as the story develops and goes towards its ending I felt bad for her. She did things that she thought were right.
She is really a Slytherin (Harry Potter house) even the gown which is on the cover and mentioned in the book is green.
This one was not my kind of book but the story was good. It made me emotional and smile. I enjoyed reading it.
Amazing Quotes From The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo
There are many good quotes in the book. Two quotes that really caught my attention were when Evelyn said
The world doesn’t give things, you take things.
Heartbreak is a loss. Divorce is a piece of paper.
Both of these lines made me go hmm I never thought about it and I think I should do think about it.
