The Song Of Achilles Summary/Plot
The book is about Patroclus an young awkward prince, exiled from his kingdom. Achilles, son of the cruel sea goddess Thetis and King Peleus is one of the best warrior.
When they both meet they formed an inseparable bond. They both grew up together and trained by Chiron in war and medicine.
Now the Helen of Sparta has been kidnapped and Achilles must go to the war to fullfill his destiny in distant Troy and Patroclus follows him. All the heros of Greek joins this war in Troy. The war gonna test their love, friendship and everything that they that hold dear.
The Song Of Achilles Book Review
The book is written very beautifully. It just took me back in time and gave all the feelings. There are so amazing quotes in the book and it’s very captivating story.
The book is from Patroclus POV which was a surprise. Most will think it’s from Achilles POV. I didn’t expected the LGBTQ angle. The friendship and bond between them is sweet.
The characters felt like they are legends it didn’t gave me that real people vibes. It made me feel like yeah I’m reading about some great legend as it feels in most of the old legend stories.
Patroclus Is opposite of what Achilles is. Achilles is not afraid do or say things even to his father who is king. But Patroclus is afraid to even speak truth and is kind of an disappointment to his father which lead to him being exiled from his kingdom.
War are always cruel and this one was too. It was one of the longest war that I have read or heard about. It also shows about the slavery at that time. It goes for so many years. They were 16 when it started then they were 25+ I guess.
It was kind of hard to imagine a 16 year old boy doing these things, going on war and fighting. I was thinking of someone who is around 28 then I had to remind me that he is 16 so think of him as 16 year old boy.
Back at that time 16 was the age when you’re were considered as an adult. You can get married and be king. But of course the training starts at early age so yeah they were learning art of fighting since a very young age.
This book has power to make you cry. Many people were crying while reading this. Yes, it’s an emotional book.
It made me sad and broke my heart but it was not that emotional for me as it is for others. But that doesn’t mean that I didn’t like it. It doesn’t have happy ending but just a little satisfying ending.
